The line-up

Best three

Make it yours

These are our default weights. Move a slider and the line-up recalculates. Anything we couldn't measure gets the median of the others, or is left out for everyone, so missing data never helps or hurts a provider.

How Equami ranks

Three steps, nobody paid to be here.

Step 1

We collect public prices

World Bank surveys, regulator records and published fees, each with a date.

Step 2

We score with an open formula

Cost counts most. Every weight is published, and you can change it.

Step 3

You see the best three

Ranked on what actually arrives. Providers can't pay to move up.

The rules

How a provider earns its place

We rank on what the person receiving your money actually gets, then on whether the company has a clean regulatory record. Nothing else goes in. The code that runs on this page is the code we test, and it has no input for money from providers.

Licensed or excluded

A company needs a US money-transmitter license or a bank charter we can find, however cheap it is. A license claim with no license number costs 10 trust points, and the card says so.

No reward for teaser rates

A rate more than 0.5% better than mid-market is a promotion, not a price, so it isn't ranked. Smaller gaps are timing noise and count as a 0% markup, never as a bonus.

One source per ranking

We never compare one provider's World Bank price with another's snapshot price. Pick a source and every provider is measured the same way.

No guessing far from the data

Fees and markups are interpolated between the amounts each provider was measured at. We rank up to twice the largest measured amount, and no further.

Withdrawn cases don't count

Dismissed or withdrawn lawsuits and superseded orders appear on a provider's record but don't lower its score.

Small samples barely count

Every rating is pulled toward 3.5 stars as if it had 5,000 extra average reviews. A few hundred angry reviews can't sink a provider, and a few hundred glowing ones can't lift it.

Missing data is neutral

If a factor wasn't measured for a provider, it gets the median of the others. If most providers weren't measured on it, the factor is left out for everyone.

Ties go to the cheaper option

Scores that round to the same half point count as a tie, and the cheaper option ranks higher. There's no randomness and no rotation.

Plain links only

Every "Visit" button goes to the provider's homepage with no referral code or tracking. We don't know whether you click, and we don't get paid if you sign up.

The Equami score

The formula, in full

Four factors, each scored 0 to 100, then combined with the weights below. Change the weights in the line-up and the same formula runs with yours.

score = Σ (factor × weight) ÷ Σ weights cost = 100 × e^(−0.3 × (your cost % − cheapest %)) trust = 100 − Σ penalties − 10 if license unverified penalty = severity × 0.5^(years since ÷ 5) severity = min(30, 4 + 4·log₁₀(ordered ÷ $100k)) ordered = penalties plus refunds, or 2 if under $100k speed = 100 ≤1h · 90 same day · 80 next day 60 two days · 40 3–5 days · 20 longer ratings = mean of app-store and Trustpilot stars, each shrunk toward 3.5★ by 5,000 reviews

Blind spots

This is what we don't know yet. We'd rather tell you than hide it.

  • CFPB complaint counts are missing. The government database blocked automated access when we collected data. Complaints aren't scored until we load the CFPB's bulk download.
  • No usable prices yet for Xe, Sendwave, Taptap Send or Paysend. They're unranked because of missing data, not because of their prices.
  • Panda Remit isn't ranked. We found no US license number or registered US entity.
  • The World Bank doesn't survey the UK, eurozone or Canada. Those routes are ranked only on the snapshot, which Wise collected.
  • World Bank prices stop at $500, so that source ranks transfers up to $1,000. For larger amounts, use the snapshot.
  • The snapshot is missing details. It doesn't record speed for most providers, so speed is left out of snapshot rankings. It doesn't record payment or payout methods either, so those providers stay in filtered results, marked "method not recorded".
  • Some promotions may slip through. A promotional rate just above mid-market looks like a normal price in the data.
  • Citibank and Wells Fargo weren't reviewed for trust. They get the median trust score, marked "not reviewed". Chase's ratings are for its whole banking app.
