The line-up

Best three

Make it yours

These are our default weights. Move a slider and the line-up recalculates. A bank missing a rating profile or a monthly fee gets the median of the others, so a gap can't lift or sink it.

How Equami ranks

Three steps, nobody paid to be here.

Step 1

We read the fine print

Published rates, tiers, fees and promo terms, plus FDIC and regulator records.

Step 2

We run your numbers

Your balance and habits go through one open formula. Earnings or cost counts most.

Step 3

Only insured accounts rank

Your money must be fully insured. Banks can't pay to move up.

Savings accounts, ranked by the Equami score with default weights and no direct deposit. Any promotion counts only for the months it lasts, so the year's earnings can differ from the APY shown. Rates were read from each bank's own page on Nov 5, 2026, and they can change.

The rules

How a bank earns its place

We rank on the dollars you'd actually have after twelve months, then on how safely they're held. Nothing else goes in. The code on this page is the code we test, and it has no input for money from banks.

Insured or excluded

Every account must be held at an FDIC- or NCUA-insured institution we can find by certificate number. If your balance plus a year of interest would pass the insured limit, the account isn't ranked for you.

Middlemen cost points

When an app holds your money through a partner bank instead of being the bank, you're insured only if the app's records are right. After the 2024 Synapse collapse froze customers' money, we take 15 safety points off that set-up, and off a bank's sweep program for balances above $250,000.

Teaser rates count only as long as they last

A promotion counts only if any new customer can get it and its length is fixed. It counts for those months, on its balance cap, then the regular rate takes over. Referral boosts, memberships and "up to" lengths don't count.

Conditions are applied, not assumed

If a rate needs direct deposit and you haven't said you'd set it up, you get the rate without it. Tiers apply at your exact balance. If a top rate needs money parked elsewhere at the bank, the interest you'd give up on it counts as a cost.

Fees come off first

Monthly fees you wouldn't get waived are subtracted from interest. For checking, ATM, overdraft and foreign-card fees are costed from the habits you choose.

No guessing a fee

If your habits need a fee we couldn't find, like an ATM fee when you use ATMs, the account isn't ranked for you, and we say so. A missing monthly fee gets the median of the others, marked on the card.

Small samples barely count

Every rating is pulled toward 3.5 stars as if it had 5,000 extra average reviews, the same rule as everywhere on Equami.

Ties go to the better deal

Scores that round to the same half point count as a tie, and the account that leaves you more money ranks higher. No randomness, no rotation.

Plain links only

Every "Visit" button goes to the bank's own page with no referral code. We get nothing if you open an account.

    Questions

    Straight answers

The short versions, using today's numbers.

What is the best online savings account for $10,000?

Equami currently ranks EverBank Performance Savings first at $10,000, earning about $420 in a year after fees. Openbank and Bread Savings come next. Savings rates are variable, so confirm the current rate on the bank's site.

What is the best online checking account?

For someone who keeps about $2,500 and doesn't use out-of-network ATMs, overdraft or spend abroad, Equami currently ranks Ally Spending Account (Interest Checking) first, then Axos and Capital One. Your habits can change this, so set them in the calculator.

Do banks pay to be ranked on Equami?

No. Equami has no ads, affiliate links or sign-up bonuses. Most bank best-of lists are paid per account opened. This one isn't, and every link goes to the bank's own page with no referral code.

Is my money insured at these accounts?

Equami ranks only accounts held at FDIC- or NCUA-insured institutions it can look up. Apps that hold your money through a partner bank lose safety points, because your coverage depends on the app's records being right. Standard coverage is $250,000 per depositor, per bank, per ownership category.
